[Cooper has done his reading. He always does his reading, even when shit goes crazy. Or especially when shit goes crazy. Which is why you, bargians, will not be getting his name for a good long while.] Guess federal prisons just weren't doing the trick. Is anybody actually qualified to be on this boat? You'd think this would be a best of the best service, but I guess that's a little too much to ask for. Out in the middle of space.

I'm starting to think making that deal wasn't worth it. God knows how you people survive with this kind of disorganization.

Only that people with the most experience in disciplined organisations seem to have the hardest time adjusting here. Policemen, military, et cetera. I'm ex-military myself, but own experience has been much more irregular, shall we say.

Working for hire, so to speak. And some official armies as well. It's a varied background.

I like to think that everyone brings their own strengths, one way or another.

Oh, I don't know. It depends on the exact sort of shit and fan. Which tends to be wildly variable around here, as you'll see.

Indeed. Well, feel free to give me a shout if there's anything you need help with. I've been here for over a year now, and I like to think I've learnt a thing or two.

A year or two on average, perhaps.

Occasionally yes, it actually does.

Let's put it this way: a little healthy cynicism never hurt anyone around here.

[Irony.]

Usually around the beginning of each month there's a new influx of arrivals. And people do tend to vanish occasionally, often without warning, and sometimes they don't come back.

Yes. Sometimes they've got their memories when they come back, sometimes not—although they often regain them later. Occasionally time will have passed for them, but it's just as likely that they won't have noticed they were gone at all, at least not until they start looking at the post archives.

Don't try to look for any rhyme or reason in it all. There really isn't any.

People with bigger brains than mine—I wouldn't presume to assess yours—are working on this problem as we speak. I'll let you know if I hear of any progress.

Anytime, Mr Brown. Good luck.
